AICTE, India is organizing a Bharath Cycle Design Challenge 2023 on the occasion of World Cycle Day 2023. The last date for submission of entries is July 15, 2023.
About the Competition
The Bharath Cycle Design Challenge (BCDC) is an initiative to encourage innovation and creativity in the design and making of cycles. The competition seeks to promote sustainable transportation and provide solutions to the challenges faced by the public in India.
The competition invites student teams to design a Cycle that is affordable, eco-friendly and suits the needs of the Indian market. The competition involves two basic themes which are the design and prototyping of the Commute & Cargo Cycle with the subcategory of EV/Non-EV.
Eligibility
The competition is open to students of Technical Institutions in India approved by AICTE.
Team
- Each team should be led by a designated Team Leader.
- The Team Leader will be the primary contact person for communication with the AICTE and is responsible for submitting the design entry on behalf of the team.
- Teams should consist of 3 to 5 members.
Prizes
- The competition will offer prizes for winners, which will be communicated before or during the competition.
- Four teams will be shortlisted for the final event in each category i.e., there shall be a total of 16 teams for the grand finale.
- Shortlisted teams may be connected to the AICTE Idea labs located across the country for facilitating their design and manufacturing.
- AICTE will provide an amount of Rs. 40,000/- (Forty Thousand Rupees only) per team to all 16 short-listed teams as seed money for prototype development, design and fabrication purpose.
- For the winners in each category, an amount of Rs. 1,00,000/- (One Lakh Rupees only) shall be provided as Prize money. (Only for 1st prize winners in each category)
- Certificate of Appreciation shall be provided to the remaining teams who qualified for the grand finale.

Cycle Design Requirements
- All cycle designs submitted must be original and unique, not infringing on any existing patents or intellectual property.
- The design should be focused on improving performance, comfort, sustainability, or any other aspect that enhances the cycling experience.
- The design can be for any type of Cargo Cycle or Commute Cycle with the subcategory of EV/Non-EV.
Design Submission
- The Team Leader is responsible for submitting the complete design entry on behalf of the team.
- Participants must submit their designs in digital format.
- The design submission should include both 2D and 3D models of the cycle.
- The 2D drawings should provide detailed technical specifications, including materials suggested for different components.
- Participants must also submit a comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM) listing all the components and materials required to build the cycle.
Important Dates
- Announcement of Event (World Cycle Day): June 3, 2023.
- Last Date for Participants to Submit their Design Concept: July 15, 2023.
- Announcement of Shortlisted Participants: August 1, 2023.
- Completion of Testing & Evaluation of the Physical Model (Proto Type): September 30, 2023.
- Grand Finale and Announcement of Winners: October 2, 2023.
