About the Competition
The GRC Social Impact Essay Competition invites ambitious high school students from around the globe to submit essays on impactful solutions for today’s pressing social challenges. It is hosted by the Global Research Consortium (GRC), an international non-profit organization with branches at over 20 top universities, including Harvard, UPenn, and Columbia. This competition offers a unique opportunity to showcase your ideas globally.
Why Participate?
Participation in this competition allows you to contribute to meaningful discussions and offers a chance to gain recognition and support from leading academic and professional institutions. Here are some key benefits:
- Top 5 Authors: Theyβll receive an internship with one of GRC’s university branches and support a consulting team on a client project from February to May 2025.
- Top 6-10 Authors: Theyβll get paired with an Ivy League mentor for at least three coaching sessions to guide their academic journey.
- Top 30 Essays: Theyβll be published by the GRC think tank on the Insights platform, and all authors will receive a digital laureate certificate.
- Top 31-50 Authors: Theyβll receive a digital finalist certificate.
Essay Topics
Participants are required to write an argumentative piece identifying an important problem the world faces today and offer a compelling solution. They can choose one of the following topics:
- Technology for Good: How can AI, automation, and telecommunications be harnessed for social good?
- Global Health: Strategies to improve human quality of life globally and promote affordable healthcare.
- Sustainable Development & Climate Change: Balancing economic growth, resource consumption, and wealth distribution.
- Innovations in the Public Sector: Enhancing decision-making processes and budget allocation in the public sector.
- Modern Solutions to Human Rights Issues: Improving the implementation of UN human rights on global, regional, and local levels.
- The Role of Education in Promoting Gender Equality & Social Mobility: Policy changes and investments in education to promote equality and social mobility.
Submission Guidelines
- Word Count: Minimum 500, maximum 1,000 words (excluding titles, references, and footnotes).
- Support: You can attach up to 2 charts or infographics to support your argument.
- Authors: You can submit an essay as an individual or a group of up to 3 students.
- Plagiarism: All essays will be screened for plagiarism. Any form of plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
- References: Reference all sources, preferably using Chicago citation style. References do not count towards the word limit.
Timeline
- Submission Portal Opens: September 1, 2024
- Submission Deadline: December 15, 2024
- Results Announced: February 1, 2025
