About TCBF

TCBF is Treviso Comic Book Festival. From 29th September to 1st October 2023, the city of Treviso will host the Treviso Comic Book Festival, the Veneto region’s leading comic book event.

Competition Details

As part of the 20th Treviso Comic Book Festival edition (TCBF 2023), the Fumetti in Treviso association announces the International Contest for New Comic Authors 2023, created in collaboration with Banca Prealpi San Biagio Credito Cooperativo.

The Contest addresses all beginner comic authors of legal age who want to test their skills and try to create a comic story. It is possible to participate both alone or as a group of artists.

In order to participate in the contest, each participant (or group of participants) is required to submit a comic story about this year’s theme. Stories and characters in the submitted comic story can be both fictional or based on real people and events.

Contest Theme

The International Contest for New Comic Authors 2023’s theme is Light Things.

Eligibility

  • The competition is open exclusively to Italian and foreign beginner authors who are 18 years old by the 3rd September 2023.
  • Beginner comic author is to be intended as a person who as such does not have employment contracts in the field of comic’s drawing or writing, has never been published with national and/or international publishers (so none of his/hers works can be associated with an ISBN), has never been published in newspapers or magazines
  • Works that are the result of the collaboration of several people (ex. comic artist, writer, inker, colourist) are allowed.
  • It is not allowed to publish the comic or parts of it, in paper, digital or social media form, until the announcement of the winners on 1st October 2023.

Entry Fee

Entry to the competition is free.

Technical Guideline

  • The artwork must be a comic story of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 pages, and has to be submitted in the digital PDF format.
  • Participants have full artistic freedom in the interpretation of the theme as well as in the choice of drawing techniques and colouring styles. The submitted artwork can be black and white or in colour.
  • The text of the comic strips must be either in Italian or English.
  • The stories and characters must be absolutely unpublished. In order to avoid disqualification, the artwork must be an original piece, completed solely by the participants.

Prizes

  • First prize: € 500 (INR 45,492 approx)
  • Second prize: € 300 (INR 27,295 approx)
  • Third prize: € 200 (INR 18,198 approx)
