JRD Tata Foundation in Business Ethics, XLRI, Jamshedpur is organizing an All India Essay Writing Competition and is accepting submissions till July 20, 2024.

About the Competition

How do scams and scandals in our society reflect the need for ethics and integrity? How do scams and scandals affect the common people? What can we do about them? What are the ethical and moral demands on our society, given the increasing cases of scandals, scams, and corruption?

The larger framework of this competition is to explore the significance of ethics in society at large and in the business world in particular. So, you are requested to choose one specific topic which you are convinced of and argue for it. Do not remain at the general or descriptive level. Choose one particular area, find arguments for and against, and come to a reasoned and deliberate opinion.

Topics

This year’s Essay Competitions focus on the general topic of Scams, Scandals, Ethics, and Integrity.

It encourages you to take a specific scam/scandal, explore it in detail, and look at the ethical basis of it. It encourages you to look into the ethical framework that would have avoided the scandal and suggest possibilities for minimizing the consequences.

So this year’s essay challenges students to enable a just and transparent society, where they can live harmoniously with respect and integrity.

Workshop

An online workshop, which will be helpful for the final essay, will be conducted for those who register before December 10, 2023. In order to register, send an email with your full name, bio details, educational background, and contact address to jrdtf@xlri.ac.in

Prizes

1st Winner: Rs. 20,000;
2nd Winner: Rs. 15,000;
3rd Winner: Rs. 10,000;
10 Consolation Prizes: Rs. 2,000 each.
Participation certificates will be given to deserving participants.
Selected Essays will be published with DOI and ISSN or ISBN.

Submission Guidelines

You are welcome to add references, to make your arguments more consistent, cohesive, and persuasive. Keep the footnotes to a minimum.
No of words (including bibliography and footnotes): 2,500-3,500
Avoid plagiarism by all means.
Use APA style with in-text citations. For details and model essays, please see here.
In the essay, please try to be focused and specific. Argue persuasively for your point, bringing out logically consistent reasons or premises. You may quote business leaders, ethicists, or thinkers.
