About The Indian Debating League

As the Official Hosts for Cambridge School and Oxford Union Debates for Indian High school students, The Indian Debating League (IDL) nurtures India’s best minds on regional, national, and international matters. With International wins at Harvard, Yale, Oxford Union, and LSE this year, the Indian Debating League 4.0 is set to make history by uniting 1 million debaters from 100 cities across the country. With unparalleled reach and impact, we aim to foster intellectual exchange, empower voices, and cultivate the next generation of leaders.

This year, we are proud to announce that our theme is “Ethics in the Changing Global Order: India Leading the Way.” One of the world’s oldest civilisations, India is now steering ethical leadership in a rapidly evolving global order. Amid technological disruptions and geopolitical shifts, India is uniquely positioned to lead with its dharma (righteousness) and seva (selfless service) values.

About the Competition

The Indian Debating League is India’s largest debate competition to select Regional & State Teams and create National Speech Benchmarks in India. IDL has 3 Rounds – Round 1, State Team Selection, is Individual 1 on-1 Spar in the first half of November; Round 2, Inter State, is Asian Parliamentary; and Round 3 is WSDC format debate at IIT Delhi on 30th November

Eligibility

  • School Students within Grades 3rd to 12th are eligible to participate in IDL.
  • Junior – Grades 3rd to 5th
  • Middle – Grades 6th to 8th
  • Senior – Grades 9th to 12th

Key Dates and Formats

  • Three days Training MasterClasses online with Mock Debates & Real-time Feedback: Two Slots for Training:
    • Slot 1 – 24th to 27th Sept OR 
    • Slot 2 – 22nd to 24th Oct.
  • 5th to 18th Nov: State Selection Online: One v/s One Debate with three chances to qualify for State Teams).
  • 23rd and 24th Nov: Inter-State team selection Online: Team 3 vs 3 format, Asian Parliamentary Format.
  • 30th Nov: Semi-Finals and Finals in IIT Delhi: Team 3 vs 3, Worlds School Debate Championship Format.
