This competition encourages students to challenge themselves and explore different writing styles to ultimately strengthen their writing skills. Timeline

  • October 1st, 2024: Early Bird Registrations open
  • November 30th, 2024: Early Bird Registrations close
  • December 1st, 2024: Regular Registrations open 
  • January 31st, 2025: Regular Registrations close
  • February 10th, 2025: Prompts announcement
  • February 17th, 2025: Regional Essay submission deadline
  • February 28th, 2025: Global Finalists announced
  • March 5th, 2025: Global Essay submission deadline
  • March 15th, 2025: Global Winners announced

Regions

HCGEC 2025 will run from February through March 2025. The competition features two key rounds, the regional qualifiers held throughout 5 regions, followed by the global finals. To compete in the global round, participants must go head-to-head with local participants and place in the top 15 of the regional qualifiers.

  • APAC (East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania)
  • Europe, Russia, and Central Asia
  • Middle East, North Africa, Central and South Africa
  • LATAM (South America, Central America, Mexico, and the islands of the Caribbean)
  • North America

Regional Qualifiers

  • Participants will have over a week after registrations close to craft and submit their essays. Essays should be submitted in a Word Document through the submission link that will be provided to registrants.
  • All participants will be invited to exclusive boot camps during the competition by top professionals and professors!

Global Round

  • Top 15 essays from each region – 5 argumentative, 5 creative and 5 journalistic – will be invited to represent their region and qualify for the global final!
  • Each participant will receive a week to elaborate on their regional submission and submit their cumulative essay in a Word Document before the deadline
  • The top 12 submissions, of the final 75, will be recognized in the global final and will win awesome prizes.
  • This includes 4 essays from the creative selection, 4 from argumentative and 4 from journalism.
