Course Details
There is a growing need for mental health support amongst adolescents. The Adolescent Problem-Solving Training Counselling (APT) course aims to build the capacity of individuals interested in working with adolescents to meet this need. The course teaches an evidence-based, brief problem-solving counselling intervention that equips adolescents with coping skills for their mental health concerns. A randomized controlled trial conducted by Sangath, in partnership with Harvard Medical School, USA, and the Government of New Delhi, demonstrated the effectiveness of the intervention in addressing adolescent psychosocial difficulties.
Through this course, learners will gain the knowledge and skills required to carry out the counselling process and the problem-solving intervention.
This programme is absolutely free.
This course includes 16 modules, divided into two sections:
Foundational Skills and Problem-Solving Intervention Skills. The first section will familiarise learners with adolescent mental health, basic counselling skills, and the essential considerations of counselling, including setting up sessions, home practice, and risk assessment and management. The second section introduces the learner to the three steps of the problem-solving intervention, i.e. Problem Identification, Option Generation, and Do-it Plan. It explains the rationale and steps of the problem-solving intervention and the process of implementing it within counselling sessions.
