About Under the Madness Magazine
A magazine for teen writersβby teen writers. Under the Madness brings together student editors from across New Hampshire under the mentorship of the state poet laureate to focus on the experiences of teens from around the world.
Contest Overview
Submissions are invited for the Teen Poetry Contest 2023 by Under the Madness Magazine. The contest is to be judged by Isabella RamΓrez. She is the 2022 National Youth Poet Laureate South Regional Ambassador, a program of Urban Word NYC, and the Jason Taylor Foundationβs 2021 South Florida Youth Poet Laureate.
Eligibility
Any teen between the ages of 13-19 years old living on Planet Earth is eligible. Poems must be in English (translations enthusiastically welcome) and have not been previously published (in a magazine, newspaper, or book). Poems that have appeared on social media are acceptable.
Entry Fee
None.
Awards
- One poem will be selected for first-place and be awarded $250 (INR 20,509 approx) and publication in Issue #4 of the magazine. The winning poet will also be featured in a blog interview.
- The second-place poem will be awarded $100 (INR 8,203 approx). The third-place poem will be awarded $50 (INR 4,101 approx). Both the second- and third-place poems will be published in an upcoming issue of the magazine.
- All poems submitted to the contest will also be considered for publication in an upcoming issue.

Interested participants can send 2-3 Poems in a single PDF Word-friendly attachment to underthemadnessmagazine[dot]com.
