About the Quiz

The Indian Navy, through the prestigious Southern Naval Command, is back with THINQ – The Naval Quiz, a dynamic and enriching pan-India quiz competition designed for students of classes IX to XII. With a unique blend of general knowledge and India-specific themes, THINQ not only sharpens young minds but also fosters a sense of national pride and awareness. Here’s everything you need to know to be part of this remarkable journey of knowledge and discovery.

Participation Criteria

  • Open to all students from Classes IX to XII across India, regardless of school board or region.
  • Schools may field multiple teams, with two students per team.
  • Each team must belong to the same school, though students can be from different classes (e.g., a Class IX and a Class XII student can form a team).
  • From Elimination Round 2 (ER-2) onwards, only one team per school will be allowed to continue.

Registration Process

  • Prior registration is mandatory and must be done by school staff only. Students cannot self-register.
  • Each participant must carry a valid school ID card during all rounds of the competition.
  • Teams found using unfair means will be disqualified immediately.

Format of the Competition

THINQ is designed as a multi-tiered quiz, progressing from open online rounds to national-level finals:

Preliminary Rounds

  • 20,000+ schools are expected to participate.
  • Schools will be divided into four zones: North, South, East, and West.
  • The preliminary round consists of three Elimination Rounds (ER-1, ER-2, ER-3):
    • Top 50% from each zone advance from ER-1 to ER-2.
    • Top 20% from each zone move from ER-2 to ER-3.
  • All rounds will be conducted online, compatible with most browsers (preferably Chrome or Edge).
  • It is recommended to use a laptop or desktop for the quiz.

Zonal Selection Round

  • Top 20% of teams from each zone after ER-3 will qualify.
  • This round will be held online via Zoom.
  • Only qualified teams will receive detailed instructions for this round.

Semi-Finals and Finals

  • 16 teams (4 from each zone) will enter the semi-finals.
  • Two semi-finals will be conducted, from which 8 teams (4 per semi-final) will reach the finals.
  • The Southern Naval Command of the Indian Navy will host the semi-finals and finals.
  • Qualified teams must be accompanied by a teacher from their school.
  • The Indian Navy will bear travel and accommodation costs for the semi-finalists, finalists, and accompanying teachers.
  • Details will be communicated to the qualifying teams at a later stage.

Awards and Prizes

  • Winners will receive prestigious awards and recognition.
  • All teams qualifying for the Zonal Round will receive participation certificates.
  • Semi-finalists will receive mementos, gifts, and certificates.
  • Participants reaching the semi-finals and finals will engage in cultural activities that showcase Kerala’s heritage and natural beauty.
  • Teams will also get the rare opportunity to visit Indian Naval ships, training facilities, and aircraft, offering them a glimpse into the Naval way of life.
