About
Established in 1875, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) is completing 150 years of service to the nation on 15th January 2025. IMD is among the earliest government departments created specifically for systematic observation, regular reporting and scientific forecasting of weather phenomenon in the Indian subcontinent. In a way, the evolution of meteorology as a stream of modern physical science owes a lot to the contributions made by scientists and technologists who were associated with IMD during its glorious one hundred and fifty years of journey.
To commemorate our remarkable 150-year journey of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, proudly announce IMD’s Essay Writing Contest in collaboration with MyGov, an engaging and educational initiative designed to foster meaningful connections with the public.
This contest provides a platform for the youth to explore and understand the pivotal role played by the India Meteorological Department in shaping the lives of Indian citizens. By participating, young minds can channel their creativity to propose innovative ideas and insights on how IMD can further contribute to building a resilient, informed, and sustainable society.
Eligibility
The competition is open for all the Indian Citizens.
Submission Criteria
- The competition will be in English and Hindi, both languages. Entries can be submitted in either English or Hindi.
- One participant can submit a maximum of one entry only. Once submitted, an entry cannot be withdrawn.
- The essays beyond the prescribed limit (less than 600 words and more than 700 words) will not be considered for evaluation.
- The participant should ensure that his / her MyGov profile is accurate and updated since the Department would use this for further communication.
