Global Competition
What started in Maryland in 2014 as a small local competition has grown into a worldwide movement. Inspired by Chan Kim and Rene Mauborgneβs Blue Ocean Strategy, this competition teaches students how to create new market spaces rather than competing in crowded industries.
In 2022-2023, the competition saw:
- 5,209 participants
- 1,700 schools
- Students from 146 countries
- Representation from 46 US states
From Ireland to Uganda, Japan to Australia, young entrepreneurs from every continent have participated, making this a truly global event.
Why This Competition Matters?
Todayβs economy is driven by entrepreneurs. The competition prepares students to think creatively and solve real-world problems by:
- Encouraging job creation: 75% of new jobs each year come from entrepreneurs.
- Bridging the employment gap: 4 out of 5 college grads struggle to find jobs, making self-employment a valuable skill.
- Filling the entrepreneurship education gap: While 72% of high school students want to start a business, 62% never receive formal training.
What Makes Blue Ocean Different?
