About the Contest
The Wergle Flomp Humor Poetry Contest, organized by Winning Writers, is celebrating its 24th year. This contest seeks out the best in humorous poetry and welcomes entries that are witty, funny, or downright hilarious.
Contest Guidelines
- No fee to enter.
- Only one submission is allowed per participant.
- Word Limit: 250 lines maximum.
- No restriction on age of author.
- Both unpublished and previously published work accepted.
- Authors from all countries eligible except Syria, Iran, North Korea, Crimea, Russia, and Belarus (due to US government restrictions).
- The poem you submit should be in English. Inspired gibberish is also accepted.
- In general, poems written with the aid of a text-generating AI such as ChatGPT are not eligible. However, if you have employed an AI in a way that gets really funny results, please email info[at]winningwriters[dot]com for a ruling on the eligibility of your entry. You must get pre-approval from the organisers before submitting a work that employs an AI in any way. We are looking for signs of human ingenuity.
Prizes
The contest boasts a total prize pool of Rs. 3L+ / $3,750.
- First Prize: Rs. 1.6L / $2,000 plus a two-year gift certificate from co-sponsor, Duotrope (a Rs. 8k $100 value)
- Second Prize: Rs. 40k / $500
- Third Prize: Rs. 20k / $250
- Honorable Mentions: 10 awards of Rs. 8k / $100 each
- Top 13 entries published online
Judgment
- Entries are judged anonymously which ensures a fair evaluation based solely on the poemβs merit.
- The judges are Jendi Reiter and Lauren Singer
