The Centre for Himalayan Studies (CHS) at Shiv Nadar University invites applications for its Non-Resident Fellowship, running from 15 December 2024 to 14 December 2025. This fellowship provides an exciting opportunity for scholars to conduct advanced research on the Himalayan region, focusing on its diverse challenges and opportunities.

Fellowship Details

The fellowship is designed to explore critical themes such as borders and identities, economy, environment, and geopolitics within the Himalayan region, including the Hindu Kush and Karakoram ranges. Fellows will receive a stipend of β‚Ή50,000 per month for 12 months.

Additionally, fellows will work in their field areas and visit the core team at Shiv Nadar University twice a year, with travel expenses covered by CHS. The fellowship will support the creation of impactful research outputs and foster collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Research Outputs

Fellows are required to produce:

  • A research monograph of 15,000–20,000 words, with the first draft due by 15 October 2025.
  • Four commentaries (800–1,000 words each, one per quarter).
  • Four issue briefs (2,500–3,000 words each, one per quarter).

Eligibility and Application Requirements

The fellowship is open to candidates who have completed their PhD, with preference given to those with relevant work experience. Applicants must submit the following:

  • A detailed CV
  • Abstract of their PhD thesis
  • Research proposal (2,500 words)
  • Writing sample (published or unpublished)
  • Ideas for 2 issue briefs and commentaries (with 50-word abstracts for each)
