About Puducherry
Pondicherry, now known as Puducherry, is the capital and most populous city of the Union Territory of Puducherry. The city is in theΒ Puducherry districtΒ on the southeast coast of India and is surrounded by theΒ Bay of BengalΒ to the east and the state ofΒ Tamil Nadu, with which it shares most of its culture, heritage, and language.
Puducherry, formerly known as Pondicherry, gained its significance as “The French Riviera of the East” after the advent of French colonialisation in India. Puducherry is the Tamil interpretation of “new town” and mainly derives from “Poduke”, the name of the marketplace or “port town” for Roman trade in the 1st century, as mentioned inΒ The Periplus of the Erythraean Sea.
The settlement was once an abode of learned scholars versed in theΒ Vedas, hence it was also known as Vedapuri.
About the Scholarship
Adhoc Merit Grant for SC Students – Puducherry 2023-24 is an initiative of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India to provide financial assistance toΒ SC category students of Puducherry who have passed the Class 10 examination.Β The selected candidates will receive βΉ 300 as a lump-sum amount.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, an applicant must –Β
- Be a domicile of Puducherry.
- Belong to Scheduled Caste (SC) category.
- Have scored 65% and above marks in the Class 10 examination.
- Be pursuing their higher studies from a recognized university/college/institution.
Benefits
The selected candidates will receive βΉ 300 as a lump-sum amount.
