About MyGov
MyGov is a citizen engagement platform launched by the Government of India on 26 July 2014 to promote the active participation of Indian citizens in their country’s governance and development. It is aimed at creating a common platform for Indian citizens to “crowdsource governance ideas from citizens”.
MyGov has also launched State instances in 23 States, namely Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Ladakh and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
MyGov has had significant success in terms of engaging with citizens. Logos and Tagline of key National Projects have been crowdsourced through MyGov. A few Notable crowdsourced initiatives are the Logo for Swachh Bharat, the Logo for the National Education Policy, the Logo for the Digital India Campaign, etc.
The organisation/body has time and again solicited inputs of draft policies from citizens few of those are the National Education Policy, Data Centre Policy, Data Protection Policy, National Ports Policy, IIM Bill etc. MyGov have also been frequently soliciting ideas for Mann Ki Baat, Annual Budget, Pariksha Pe Charcha and many more such initiatives.
About the Preamble to the Constitution
- The Preamble to the Constitution is a reflection of the core constitutional values that embody the Constitution. It declares India to be a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic committed to Justice, Equality and Liberty for the people.
- The Preamble does not grant substantive rights and is not enforceable in the courts, but various Indian courts have engaged with the Preamble and have treated it as a guiding light in the interpretation of the Constitution.
- The opening and last sentences of the Preamble: βWe, the peopleβ¦adopt enact and give to ourselves this Constitutionβ signifies the power that is vested in the hands of the people.
About the Opportunity
Every year, November 26 is celebrated as Samvidhan Diwas (Constitution Day) in order to commemorate the day of the adoption of the Constitution of India, besides highlighting and reiterating the values and principles enshrined thereunder and to honour and acknowledge the constitution of our Founding Fathers.
This year, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, in collaboration with MyGov, invites citizens to read the preamble to the constitution in 22 Official languages and English and get a Certificate of Participation.
