About the Organization
The Bombay Natural History Society, founded on 15 September 1883, is one of the largest non governmental organisations in India engaged in conservation and biodiversity research.
It supports many research efforts through grants and publishes theΒ Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society. Many prominent naturalists, including the ornithologistsΒ SΓ‘lim AliΒ andΒ S. Dillon Ripley, have been associated with it.
The BNHS logo is theΒ great hornbill, inspired by a great hornbill named William, who lived on the premises of the Society from 1894 until 1920, during the honorary secretaryships ofΒ H. M. PhipsonΒ until 1906 andΒ W. S. MillardΒ from 1906 to 1920.Β The logo was created in 1933, the silver-jubilee year of the Society’s founding.
Competition Details
On the occasion of βHARIYALI SAPTAHβ (1st to 9th July, 2023), Environmental Information Awareness Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) Programme Centre (PC), Resource Partner (RP) on Avian Ecology at the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS-EIACP), is organising a quiz competition on monsoon bird, a monsoon trail, a short video making competition and a plantation drive for citizens and school/college students.
1. Online Quiz Competition
- This contest is open to all.
- Topic: Monsoon Birds.
- Last Date of Submission: July 9, 2023.

2. Monsoon Trail
- Date: Saturday, July 8, 2023.
- Time: 7.30 am to 9.30 am.
- Location: Wetland Near to T. S. Chanakya (Indian Maritime University), Nerul, Navi Mumbai.

3. Short Video Making Competition
- Only for School/College Student (upto 12th std).
- Topic : Tree Plantation, Importance of Trees, Native Plant Species.
- Duration : 2-3 minutes.
- Last Date of Submission: July 9, 2023

4. Plantation Drive
- Open for All.
- Plant a native tree & share the photograph through google form.
- Last Date of Submission: July 9, 2023.
