About TISS
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.
Since its inception, the Vision of the TISS has been to be an institution of excellence in higher education that continually responds to changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge, towards creating a people-centred, ecologically sustainable and just society that promotes and protects dignity, equality, social justice and human rights for all.
About RACHANA
The Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education, CETE (formerly, Centre for Education, Innovation and Action Research, CEIAR) is an independent Centre at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
RACHANA is a resource centre and design lab at the Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education (CETE), TISS, Mumbai. RACHANA has been visualised as a space for the professional development of teachers, student teachers and faculty of education.
Programme Details
RACHANA Winter School is an opportunity for students enrolled in the final year of B.Ed. and similar teacher education programmes to participate in a week-long residential immersive programme to engage with their peers across India and South Asia.

Who can Apply?
- Students of final year B.Ed or B.Ed (Special Education).
- Students in the final year of 4 year B.Sc.-B.Ed, BA-B.Ed, B.El.Ed.
- Students from other South Asian countries enrolled in pre-service teacher education.
