About Jamia Millia

The Department of Political Science at Jamia Millia Islamia – A Central University became a preeminent centre of political studies (teaching and research) when its first batch of post graduate students enrolled in 1977. The Department progressed gradually and various new courses and research programmes were initiated, enabling the Department to carve a distinct niche and explore new frontiers in the academic world.

About Eysa Centre

The Esya Centre’s mission is to generate empirical research and inform thought leadership to catalyse new policy constructs for the future. It simultaneously aims to build institutional capacities for generating ideas which enjoin the triad of people, innovation and value, consequently helping reimagine the public policy discourse in India and building decision-making capacities within government.

Summer School Details

The International Summer School, New Delhi is an intensive, six-week academic program that brings together students from across the world over the course of a summer in New Delhi, India’s capital. The program is convened annually by the Esya Centre under the banner of the Government’s acclaimed Incredible India campaign.

The ISS runs in affiliation with the Department of Political Science at Jamia Millia Islamia – A Central University (JMI).Β  Moreover, it has been the beneficiary of regular support from entities such as the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA; India), the ASEAN Secretariat (Indonesia) and the Department for International Development (DFID; UK) over the years.

The six-week program is divided into two components:

  • A four-week academic session that is conducted in Delhi at various venues such as the Teen Murti House, the official residence of India’s first Prime Minister; Jamia Millia Islamia, a preeminent central university; and Sanskriti Kendra, a notable cultural center dedicated to preserving and promoting India’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.
  • An optional, two-week internship and service learning experience that is primarily held in Delhi/NCR in conjunction with leading business enterprises and impactful non-profit organizations.

Scholarships specific to universities or institutions as part of their collaboration, arrangement and/or engagement with them are available.

Eligibility

The ISS welcomes applications from anyone who has a genuine interest in learning more about India including university students, high school students and working professionals, among others.Β  The program is open to individuals of all nationalities and Indian nationals are also encouraged to apply. The minimum eligibility criteria may be seen below:

  • 18 years of age for those choosing to reside in accommodation arranged by the ISS.
  • 16 years of age for those making their own accommodation arrangements along with a proof of parental consent for admission.

  • Academic component (Weeks 1 to 4) β€” Monday, 23 June to Friday, 18 July 2025.
  • Service Learning component (Weeks 5 & 6) β€” Monday, 21 July to Friday, 1 August 2025.
