About the Course

This course is part of a series of four e-learning courses on bivalve mollusc sanitation for growing areas. The fourth course in the e-learning series details “Growing area classification” and “Growing area management” in a bivalve mollusc sanitation programme. The course describes the process of risk categorization for a growing area as well as the overall management of a growing area in a bivalve mollusc sanitation programme.

Audience

This course addresses the subject matter from a technical perspective but is written for the general public. Individuals who would especially benefit from taking the course include:

  • Bivalve mollusc producers.Β

  • The components of the classification process, the criteria for each classification category, and the standard approach for defining these criteria in the absence of existing regulatory requirements.Β

  • Effective growing area management strategies, including elements of expected and unexpected event management plans, surveillance plans, and communication strategies.

Course Structure 

This course consists of three lessons of approximately 30-60 minutes each: 

  • Lesson 1 – Classification principlesΒ 
  • Lesson 2 – Classification in practiceΒ 
  • Lesson 3 – Growing area management
