About the CREST International Spell Bee [Winter]

CREST International Spell Bee (Winter) is India’s first Online Spelling Assessment for classes 1-8 which assesses students on the basis of Meaning, Spelling and Pronunciation of the words in the English language. Hence, it will help students to foster their lexical development which forms the basis of the English language.

The exam consists of two sections:

  • Section-1: Spell Bee (55 minutes) – Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Section-2: Get, Set, Spell! (5 minutes) – Audio based questions. The student needs to hear the sentence and write the spelling asked.

Important Information About the Spell Bee

  • The assessments have been carefully designed by a team of English language experts.
  • India’s first online proctored Spell Bee exam (Winter).
  • Online ‘Get, Set, Spell!’ round.
  • One level of exam.
  • Objective-type test that the students need to complete in 60 minutes.
  • The dictionary which will be used for reference is Oxford Learner’s Dictionary. This will be w.r.t. spellings & meanings. In case, if the word is not found in this dictionary, then it is assumed that this word does not exist.
  • The accent used in all the audio questions will be Indian.

  • CREST Olympiads allow both school and individual registration.
  • Students studying & residing in India & outside India are also eligible to take the exam.

How to Register?

  • Registration of Students through schools: Students from classes 1-8 are eligible to give CREST International Spell Bee (Winter). A prospectus containing the registration forms are sent to all schools registered with CREST Olympiads for the Spell Bee exam. If your school is not registered with us, then please send an email to info[at]crestolympiads[dot]com and we will send you the prospectus soon. It is mandatory for schools to return the registration forms to CREST Olympiads, duly filled in and completed in all respects by the due date.
  • Registration for individual participants: If your school does not conduct Spell Bee, then you can register as an individual participant as well. The link for the online registration for individual participants is here.

  • Can we imagine living in a muted world or a world where there is no defined meaning for the words we are speaking? It would be a chaotic and meaningless world. Wouldn’t it be? Hence, we all do realise the importance of all the words that we read, write or speak on a daily basis in our day-to-day life. And this even proves that without proper words, our life would be very difficult.
  • For building the foundation of our language skills even knowing the basic words like ‘a’, ‘the’, etc. are important. Even though there isn’t a strong link between word spelling and intelligence but spellings are essential to comprehend things. Syllabus & Exam Pattern for the CREST International Spell Bee [Winter]

The CREST International Spell Bee (Winter) syllabus is available on the website for grades 1-8. The exam syllabus consists of interesting sections like Word Puzzle, Word Twins, Word Fusion, Back to the Roots, Spell-probe, Jumble Tumble, etc. Students must follow the prescribed syllabus to ensure better marks in the exam.

Spell Bee words list for grades 1-8 is also available on the syllabus page. The word list serves as the foundation for many questions and between 70-80% of the questions will originate from it.

Each section in the syllabus of the CREST International Spelling Bee (Winter) has its own set of marking standards. The number of questions to be asked from each section varies for every grade. The exam fee is INR 225 for students studying and enrolling from India. For students studying and residing outside of India, the fee is country-specific.

Olympiad Awards

CREST Olympiads announce exciting awards worth USD 530,000. There are awards for the top 50% of the students participating in the CREST Olympiads exams. CREST Olympiads recognize students with Gift Vouchers, Merit Certificates, Trophies, Medals, ‘Honorable mention’ Digital Certificates, etc. for their accomplishment in the CREST Olympiads exams.
