Applications are invited from University Grant Commission (UGC) for the Indira Gandhi Scholarship Scheme 2023 for PG Students for Single Girl Child.
About UGC
UGC stands for University Grant Commission and is responsible for coordinating, determining, and maintaining standards of higher education. The University Grants Commission provides recognition to universities in India and disburses funds to such recognized universities and colleges.
Objectives of the Indira Gandhi Scholarship Scheme
- To support the postgraduate education of single girl children in postgraduate courses only.
- To recognize the value of observance of the small family norm.
Who can Apply?
- Girl students who are admitted in the first year of PG courses in the following Universities /Colleges and happen to be the only girl child in the family:
- Universities/Institutions/Colleges included under sections 2(f) & 12(B) of the UGC Act.
- Deemed to be Universities included under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, and eligible to receive grants-in-aid from UGC. Those Deemed Universities which do not receive funds from the Central/ State Government are not eligible institutions under the scheme.
- Universities/Institutions/College funded by Central/State Government.
- Institutes of National Importance.
- Girl students without having any brothers or girl students who are twin daughters/ fraternal daughters may also apply for scholarships under the aforesaid scheme.
- In a family, if one son and one daughter are available then the girl child will not be considered for an Indira Gandhi Scholarship under the scheme.
- Admission to PG Courses in Distance education mode is not covered under the scheme.
Eligibility
- Slots: 3000
- Age limit
- Girl students up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission in the first year of PG
courses are eligible.
- Girl students up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission in the first year of PG
- The scheme is applicable to single girl child who has taken admitted to regular, full-time first year Masters Degree courses in any designated university or a postgraduate college.
- Admission to PG Courses in Distance education mode is not covered under the scheme.
Duration of the Scholarship
After selection, the awardees will be paid scholarships on DBT mode on annual basis.
How to apply?
- The candidates fulfilling the eligibility conditions are required to apply online on the National Scholarship Portal after initiation of the application process and notice to be published on the UGC website.
- The host institution where the candidate is studying is required to verify the online application.
- It is expected from the institutions where the student has taken admitted in the first year PGcourse, no tuition fees will be charged by the institute for girl students to pursue PG degree courses in Universities/Colleges/Institutions
