Bhaskaracharya Pratishthana, Pune in collaboration with Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR, Mumbai is organizing the Madhava Mathematics Competition on January 7, 2023, in offline mode.
About the Competition
The competition is named after Madhava, who introduced in the fourteenth century, profound mathematical ideas that are now part of Calculus.
His most famous achievements include the Madhava – Leibnitz series for Ο, the Madhava – Newton power series for Sine and Cosine functions, and a numerical value of Ο that is accurate to eleven decimal places.
The “Madhava School”, consisting of a long chain of teachers and students continuity, flourished for well over two centuries, making significant contributions to Mathematics and Astronomy.
Eligibility Criteria
The competition is basically meant for the S. Y. B. Sc. / S. Y. B. Sc. (Computer Science) students with Mathematics as one of the subjects and thus the question paper will be set with the background of these students in mind. However, interested students of F. Y. B. Sc. and T. Y. B. Sc. (Mathematics) may also appear. The merit list of T. Y. B. Sc. students will be made separately.
Topics & Syllabus
Calculus of one variable (sequences, series, continuity, differentiation, etc.), elementary algebra (polynomials, complex numbers, and integers), elementary combinatorics, general puzzle type/mixed type problems.

Prizes
After the analysis of the results, the first few students above a certain cut-off, with a reasonable gap after that will get cash prizes. Some more students will get the consolation prizes. All the students appearing in the competition will receive a participation certificate.

How to Register?
Students should contact the Mathematics Department of their college for the purpose of registration.
Rules & Regulations
- The examination will commence on Sunday, January 7, 2024, from 12 noon to 3.00 p.m. in the paper and pen mode (offline) only.
- The registration fee is Rs. 100.
- Students should contact their teachers (mathematics) for the purpose of registration.
- The competition is worth 100 marks and the pattern of the question paper is as per the question papers in the years prior to 2020 (before the pandemic).
- Students will have to appear for the competition at the examination centre allotted to them by the coordinator.
- Students should report to the examination centre half an hour prior to the commencement of the examination.
- Registration for the competition cannot be cancelled and in no case, the registration fees will be refunded.
