Eligibility

Submissions are open for people aged between 13-19 Years.

Steps to Submissions

  • Read the Guidelines: Read the GuidelinesMake sure that your work passes guideline checklist and ensure that you are following all the regulations that have been placed.
  • Submit: Submit Your Piece(s)After your hard work, submit your piece through the form!
  • Wait for the Response: Wait For Our ResponseSit tight and wait for us to review everyone’s work. Submission are open for one month. After the submission period ends, it will be nine days before we respond with a decision.

Accepted Categories

  • Poetry: Up to 3 pieces per issue with no more than 500 words each.
  • Prose​: Up to 3 pieces per issue with no more than 2,000 words each. We accept prose in the form of short stories (both fiction and non-fiction).

All pieces, prose or poetry, must be in English, must not contain any slang/unprofessional acronyms, and must be put into a professional format. If you’re not sure what this means, put your document in the font Times New Roman and double space it. This makes it far easier for to read your lovely work!

What They’re Looking For

The Odyssey Youth Literary Magazine is looking for adventure. Whether that be an adventure through your emotions, an adventure through your carefully crafted words, or a journey through the story that was meticulously put together, they just want an odyssey.

What They’re Not Looking For

Of course, we love to take adventures. However, adventures can sometimes go awry, so let’s clarify some things before we embark to keep our journey a pleasant one!Β They will not accept works that honor violence or hatred. They will not accept works that contain religious topics or politics.

Submission Guidelines

  • If submitting both prose and poetry, fill out the separate forms for each. A maximum of 3 poems and 3 prose pieces can be submitted per issue, totaling up to 6 pieces.
  • If your work is not selected, please wait until the next submission period to resubmit.
  • Submissions must follow our guidelines: no content involving violence, politics, hatred, religion, or descriptive brutality. Ensure that all work is appropriate for all ages.
  • Deadlines are based on Eastern Standard Time (EST). Submissions close at 12:00 a.m. EST on the specified date.
  • Include a brief third-person bio with your submission, as it will be published if your work is accepted.
  • A cover letter is required. Please follow the instructions.

Cover Letter Format

To help you with your cover letter, do it like this (you can copy and paste it):

Dear Odyssey Youth Magazine:
Hi, my name is ___ and I am ___ years old. I am a writer/author from ___ , ___. I am submitting ___(1/2/3) piece(s) of work titled “Insert Title Here”. This work is about _____________(feel free to get as detailed as possible so we can better understand your work). Thank you!Β
