About
Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), in collaboration with MyGov, is organizing a Hackathon on Data Visualization with the title βInnovate with GoIStatsβ. The theme of this hackathon is “Data-Driven Insights for Viksit Bharat”
This hackathon aims to create awareness about the data being generated by the Ministry and encourage students and researchers to utilize the data for creating innovative data-driven insights that would be useful for the policy-makers in building a ‘Viksit Bharat’. The hackathon will be hosted on the MyGov platform and will provide participants an opportunity to work with official statistical datasets to create impactful visualizations

Terms and Conditions
Intellectual Property Rights:
All submissions received during the hackathon including data visualisations, codes etc. will become the exclusive intellectual property of MoSPI. MoSPI reserves the right to:
- Use, reproduce, and adapt the entries for future purposes in the same or edited form any number of times for any official purposes, including but not limited to government reports, publications, or promotional materials.
- The selected entries may also be showcased at relevant public events and/or conferences.
Dispute Resolution:
These Rules and Regulations shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Subject to the arbitration provisions hereinbelow, the courts of Delhi, India shall have exclusive jurisdiction with respect to any dispute arising out of these Rules and Regulations.
Eligibility CriteriaΒ
The hackathon is open to the following categories of participants:
- Students enrolled in Undergraduate (UG)/ Postgraduate (PG) degrees/ diploma or equivalent courses, Research Associates currently enrolled in recognized and bonafide Indian universities, colleges, and institutions or completed the above degrees in Financial Year 2024-25.
- Participants must be Indian nationals.
- After evaluation of the entries, the winning candidates are to submit the certificate from their college/institute certifying that he/she is a bonified student of the University currently enrolled in (i) degrees/ diploma or equivalent course / completed or (ii) degrees/ diploma or equivalent course in FY 2024-25.
GratificationsΒ
Top 30 entries with the highest normalized scores will be shortlisted. Among these, the top 5 will be awarded as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes. The remaining 25 will receive consolation prizes. Prize details are as following:
1st Prize: βΉ2 Lakhs (1) |

Evaluators
A panel of evaluators will be prepared by MoSPI comprising of prominent Academicians/ Researchers/ Professors with expertise in applied statistics, data visualization, and relevant domains, outside MoSPI to ensure transparency in the evaluation process.
Data Sources
Participants may utilize the data from the following official data sources available on MoSPI’s website:
- Annual Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) Report 2023-24
- Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) Report 2022-23 Vol-I
- All-India Survey on Unorganized Sector Employment (ASUSE) 2022-23 Report
- Household Consumer Expenditure Survey (HCES) 2022-23 Report
- National Accounts Statistics including Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
- Consumer Price Index (CPI)
- Index of Industrial Production (IIP)
- Additionally, unit-level data for the surveys of MoSPI could be accessed through MoSPI’s data repository
- Participants may also access e- Sankhyiki Portal for comprehensive data
Participants are expected to properly cite the data sources used in their submissions.
Submission Guidelines
All participants must submit the following:
- Data: Exact datasets used, including details like name and year of survey, report numbers & names, page/table numbers, or microdata block numbers, if applicable.
- Software and Code: Documentation of the software tools used (e.g. R, Python), along with code used (in doc file) for data processing and visualization.
- Visualizations: A clear and well-documented presentation of their data visualizations/ dashboards.
- Documentation: A written report outlining the methods used, the insights derived, and the visualization strategies employed. The word limit would be maximum 1000 words.
If all the requisite entries are not submitted, participation will be treated as cancelled.
