About the Competition
The India Spelling Bee is a unique educational activity that combines education, fun and competition. It has been designed keeping in mind the inputs gained from the past so many years of organising spelling contests across India. We have had feedback from thousands of school heads, teachers and students. These have all helped in creating a unique format for the India Spelling Bee. While it is competitive in nature, it also adds significant educational value to each student’s education.
The India Spelling Bee is also more inclusive, as students from all across India can participate irrespective of location, board, medium of education or gender. We hope to even reach out to schools in the smaller towns and cities, who may not have an opportunity to participate in such contests, generally.
The India Spelling Bee offers an opportunity to all students of classes I – IX to participate. All participants in India Spelling Bee will be awarded Certificates of Participation.
Eligibility
- Students must be in grades one through nine (1-9). A student is eligible to participate in the India Spelling Bee for no more than five years in total.
- A student must be enrolled in a school that has registered for the India Spelling Bee. Students can only participate in one ISB per academic year.
- A student may not attend a school ISB at a different school prior to participating in his or her own school ISB.
- Students in eligible grade levels must follow a school schedule and academic course load comparable to the majority of the student’s peers with respect to both grade and age.
- Evidence of misconduct will result in disqualification.
Registration Rules
- The India Spelling Bee is an educational competition designed for any school in India. with students in classes one through nine. Registration is not open to individual students.
- A school must be registered for the contest.
- A minimum of six (6) students from any of the eligible grades (1-9) must be physically present and actively participate in the school level competition in order for the designated school champion to be eligible to take the qualifying test and be considered for possible advancement to the state level.
- School Level can now be held online as well, if required by the school.
- Official India Spelling Bee materials are the property of the registered school and may not be transferred or used by another school. School ISB materials may not be shared in hard copy or electronic form with anybody who is not an employee of the registered school, either before or after the school ISB.
- State ISB qualifiers will be posted on ISB website. The State / regional level dates will be announced later.
- The champions from each state in each category are invited to compete in the India Spelling Bee National Championship in June, 2022.
- Any audio, visual, or written recording of school ISB is not permitted. Posting or sharing of videos of school ISB gives an unfair advantage to students at schools that have not yet held their respective ISBs.

Mode of Competition
The school level can be held at school, or online also if required. The qualifiers at the School Level can then participate at the State / Regional Level.

Fee
The students have to pay Rs. 175 for the Guide Book. The student has to submit his / her details at the school. This is a one-time charge for ISB 2025-26 and there are no other charges for regional or national level contest, should the student qualify. There are no charges for the school. This is the basic minimum charge and there are value added options also.
Prizes
The winners at the Regional levels will participate at the National level competing for the title of National Champion and Gifts, Medals, Trophies and Certificates.
