The Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and CBSE has launched the School Innovation Council (SIC). It is a novel initiative to systematically handhold schools in sustainably establishing ideation, innovation, and entrepreneurial ecosystems.
SIC will foster the culture of ideation, innovation, entrepreneurship, creative thinking, design thinking, prototyping, out-of-box thinking, and IP commercialization by facilitating training (for teachers), field visits, leadership talks, awareness, orientation sessions, boot camps, national-level exhibitions, hackathons, linking of school innovation ecosystem with higher educational institutions (HEIs), etc. at schools (Annexure-A). So far, more than 3800+ schools have been registered for the SIC, and this process is ongoing.
SIC will act as an umbrella program for all the initiatives of the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, AICTE, CBSE and other institutions regarding the promotion of Innovation and Entrepreneurship among school teachers and students. SIC will enable mindset change, awareness, and training on IIE, design thinking, startup finance, HR and IPR among teachers and students.
This initiative will bridge the gap in connecting schools with the country’s Innovation and entrepreneurial (I&E) enabler ecosystem. SIC will provide a platform for the schools, academia, industry, HEIs, experts, innovators, entrepreneurs, etc., to come together and work in unison to make disruptive progress in the I&E ecosystem at the school level in the country.
The Principals / Heads of all CBSE affiliated schools are advised to establish School Innovation Councils as per the guidelines given on the SIC website and the CBSE website cbseacademic.nic.in. and be part of the Innovation Contest and secure funding of up to Rs. 2 Lakhs per Innovation.
