About CBSE

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is a national-level board of education in India for public and private schools, controlled and managed by the Government of India. Established in 1929 by a resolution of the government, the Board was an experiment towards inter-state integration and cooperation in the sphere of secondary education. There are more than 27,000 schools in India and 240 schools in 28 foreign countries affiliated with the CBSE. All schools affiliated with CBSE follow the NCERT curriculum, especially from classes 9 to 12. The current Chairperson of CBSE is Nidhi Chibber, IAS.

The constitution of the Board was amended in 1952 to give its present name, the Central Board of Secondary Education. The Board was reconstituted on July 1, 1962, so as to make its services available to students and various educational institutions in the entire country.

As you are aware, the Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the architect of national integration of independent India, is observed as Rashtriya Ekta Divas (National Unity Day) on October 31 every year. This is an occasion to foster and reinforce our commitment to strengthen the unity, integrity and security of the nation.

This year, to mark the occasion in a befitting manner with great enthusiasm, β€˜Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ may be observed as per following manner: 

  • Pledge: The schools may administer the β€˜Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ Pledge in the morning assembly. The text of the pledge is enclosed.
  • Run for Unity: Students may run for short/long distances as per their feasibility and convenience. The Run may precede/coincide with the morning assembly/ zero period/ start of the day in schools preferably at 7-8 AM on October 31, 2023. Wherever possible, either at the start or end of the Run, the Principal/senior faculty member/student(s) may speak about the role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in national integration. Wherever feasible, families of students/staff members and the local community may also be asked to join the Run. A special outreach attempt may also be made to ensure the participation of street children from marginalized areas including Divyang children, etc. in the Run.
  • Activities: The schools may also organise activities like debates, speeches on Sardar Patel’s contribution to uniting India, school assemblies dedicated to Sardar Patel and exhibitions on the life and contributions of Sardar Patel.

The schools should upload a brief report of the β€˜Run for Unity’ and other activities at this link before November 4, 2023.
