Programme Centre (PC), Resource Partner (RP) on Avian Ecology at the Bombay Natural History
Society (BNHS-EIACP https://bnhsenvis.nic.in) in association with Maharashtra Pakshimitra
Sanghatana and Bird Count India is celebrating the birth anniversaries of Dr. SΓ‘lim Ali (12 Nov) and
Shri Maruti Chitampalli (5 Nov) by conducting a SΓ‘lim Ali Bird Count across India and observing
Pakshi Saptah (Bird Week) in Maharashtra..

Both events will be celebrated for 8 days 5–12 November.

How to Participate in Bird Count?

  • Watch and count birds from anywhere you are in India for 8 days, from 5–12 November, 2024.
  • Upload your sightings to the eBird mobile app.
  • Upload at least two lists each day from 5 -12 Nov. Each list should be of at least 15 minutes or more.
  • Each list should be a complete list with counts of all birds that you could identify by sight and/ or sound to the best of your ability.

General Instructions for Bird Count:

  • Preferred Date: If possible, choose any day between 5th and 12th November to participate. Visit the nearest Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) or any waterbody, and conduct a careful bird count for at least fifteen minute to one hour to ensure meaningful data collection.
  • Best Time: Counts are most productive in the early morning when bird activity is highest. Birds tend to become quieter and less active later in the day.
  • Multiple Counts: You can upload multiple bird counts, either from the same location or from different sites.
  • eBird Upload: If you’re uploading your sightings to eBird, the eBird mobile app is one of the easiest tools to use.

Important

Please submit all your lists before the 30th of November. For those new to eBird, read the brief
description, and go through our detailed beginner’s guide; create an account and start using eBird
right away to get used to the platform.
