Applications are invited for ISRO Sponsored Summer School 2025 on Remote Sensing and GIS for Environmental Studies on 23-27 June. The last date of application is April 25.
Environment is the life supporting system. All necessities of day to day life are available from our environment. But the over-exploitation of natural resources and environmental pollution are corroding the vital life support systems. Remote Sensing data & GIS along with some models can be used to monitor and mapping of natural resources and environmental pollution in addition to natural disasters like cyclone, tsunami, avalanche, floods, drought, hailstorm, wildfire etc.
Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun, a constituent unit under Indian Space Research organization (ISRO) is engaged in imparting training and education in the field of Remote Sensing and GIS Sciences since 1966 to meet the requirements of various stake-holders, ranging from fresh graduates to policy makers including academia, industry, different government departments and NGOs.
This course for school students is of one week duration and the focus of the course is on principles of Remote Sensing & Geographic Information System (GIS) and its applications for environmental studies.
The course is intended to engage secondary and higher secondary students to create awareness about Remote Sensing Technology & its use for the study of mother planet Earth and its environment through informative lectures and demonstration. Remote sensing and GIS technology are potential tools to understand the vast environment.
Exposing the knowledge of satellite data utilization via GIS and image processing software in environmental science has a great scope as it would help the students to understand the importance of remote sensing and then in career decision making.
Indian students of 10th, 11th and 12th standard can apply for the course. Maximum two students can apply from each school.
The course will be of one week duration from June 23 , 2025 to June 27, 2025.
The course will have theory classes and demonstrations. The participants are expected to stay in IIRS from 0915 hrs to 1530 hrs.
Completed application form should be sent (by email or post) to Marine and Atmospheric Sciences Group (MASG) Office Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) Indian Space Research organisation 4 kalidas Road, Dehradun-248001, Email: masdoffice@iirs.gov.in
