The Ministry of Textiles is an Indian government national agency responsible for the formulation of policy, planning, development, export promotion and regulation of the textile industry in India.
MyGov is a citizen engagement platform launched by the Government of India on July 26, 2014, to promote the active participation of Indian citizens in their country’s governance and development.
To generate awareness about the importance of the handloom industry and its contribution to the socio-economic development of the country, August 7 is celebrated every year as “National Handloom Day”. August 7 was chosen as the National Handloom Day to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement which was launched on this day in 1905 in the Calcutta Town hall. The first National Handloom Day was inaugurated on August 7, 2015, by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the Centenary Hall of Madras University in Chennai.
The Ministry of Textiles is organising a selfie contest with MyGov where Indian citizens are requested to wear Indian Handloom and showcase their bonding with handlooms by sharing interesting selfies with Indian Handloom.
Interested participants can submit their entries via this link.
The competition will close on August 15, 2023.
