Nikon Corporation, also known just as Nikon, is a Japanese multinational corporation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan; it specializes in creating and marketing optics and imaging products. The companies held by Nikon form the Nikon Group.
The Nikon Small World Competition first began in 1975 as a means to recognize and applaud the efforts of those involved with photography through the light microscope. Since then, Small World has become a leading showcase for photomicrographers from the widest array of scientific disciplines.

The Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition is open only to individuals who are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry and have access to a light microscope.
There will be twenty (20) winners ranked from first (1st) place through twentieth (20th) place, plus Honorable Mention prizes, and prizes for images of distinction if and as determined by the Judges.
