The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is a national level board of education in India for public and private schools, controlled and managed by the Government of India. Established in 1929 by a resolution of the government, the Board was an experiment towards inter-state integration and cooperation in the sphere of secondary education. There are more than 27,000 schools in India and 240 schools in 28 foreign countries affiliated to the CBSE. All schools affiliated to CBSE follow the NCERT curriculum especially from class 9 to 12. The current Chairperson of CBSE is Rahul Singh, IAS.

Ensuring a safe, inclusive, and meaningful environment for all students is essential to fostering equitable learning, as underscored by National Education Policy 2020. The Ministry of Education, Govt. of India had issued “Guidelines on School Safety and Security” in 2021 in line with the provisions contained in the National Education Policy, 2020.

7th November, 2024 is being commemorated as International Day against Violence and Bullying at School (including Cyber Bullying) by UNESCO under the theme “Protect, educate, empower: Learners call for safe and inclusive schools.” The theme highlights the critical role of education and calls on school leaders to fulfil their commitments and promises to ensure safe and inclusive schools- from the perspectives of learners. It reinforces existing commitments and encourages new pledges to tackle school violence.
