In pursuit of integrating mathematical principles with practical aspects of life, the Central Board of Secondary Education introduced the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge during the academic session 2019-20, catering to students in classes VIII-X of CBSE-affiliated schools. This initiative seeks to
foster the development of essential competencies, including problem-solving skills, logical
reasoning, mathematization, analytical thinking, precision and accuracy, and time management.
The assessment methodology is designed to evoke joy in students through the application of
mathematics in daily life scenarios.
The Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge unfolds in two stages, encompassing offline and online modes,
each lasting one hour and featuring multiple-choice questions with a total weightage of 40 marks.
The inaugural stage, conducted offline at the school level, serves the dual purpose of affording
equal opportunities to all students and acting as an evaluative tool for schools. Participating
schools administer the test using the CBSE-prepared question paper, accessed through the
designated portal. This stage identifies the top three students from each affiliated school, paving the way for the subsequent computer-based national-level test. The latter is designed to assess the mathematical prowess of students with advanced abilities.
This year, around 5,50,000 students witnessed the enthusiastic participation from around 5050 schools at the school level and 8,590 students participated in national level at second stage. Upon successful completion of the second stage, the top 100 students from each CBSE region are conferred with a Merit certificate. The region-wise ranking of students up to the 100th position has been delineated in Annexure – I. It is noteworthy that the list is presented in alphabetical order, deliberately eschewing a hierarchical arrangement, to discourage unhealthy competition and undue fixation on individual marks.
Congratulations are extended to all the students and schools that exhibited fervent participation in the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge-2023. This collective endeavor contributes significantly to the promotion of mathematical proficiency and the holistic development of students.
