About the Notification

As India gears up to celebrate Swachh Bharat Diwas on 2nd October 2024, a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, the annual Swachhata Hi Sewa (SHS) Campaign is set to commence as a prelude to this day. Jointly organized by the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation and the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, this initiative will be observed from 14th September to 2nd October 2024, with the theme β€œSwabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata”. This year’s focus is on clearing β€œblack spots” of garbage, recognizing the essential contributions of sanitation workers, and reaffirming our collective commitment to achieving Sampoorna Swachhata (Complete Cleanliness).

Significance of the Campaign

The Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign 2024 emphasizes the importance of cleanliness in schools, aiming to sensitize children and communities through engaging activities. All schools across the country will participate in the campaign, promoting school and community-based initiatives.

Key Activities for Swachhata Hi Sewa 2024

  • Swachhta Shapath (Cleanliness Pledge):
    Students and teachers will take a pledge on the theme ‘Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata’, encouraging lifelong habits of cleanliness.
  • Cleanliness Drives:
    Schools and hostels will engage in intensive cleaning activities, removing waste with the help of teachers and staff.
  • Creative Competitions:
    Students will showcase their talents through essays, poems, debates, slogan writing, quizzes, and paintings on topics like waste management and the elimination of single-use plastics.
  • Swachhata Selfie Point:
    Schools will install selfie points at their entrances, offering interactive photo opportunities to celebrate cleanliness.
  • Human Chains for Awareness:
    Communities will unite through human chains, raising awareness and demonstrating their commitment to cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Street Plays (Nukkad Natak):
    Performances will be held in schools or local areas, using drama to educate and entertain while promoting sanitation initiatives.
  • Tree Plantations:
    Inspired by the Ek-Ped-Maa-Ke-Naam initiative, schools will plant saplings to further environmental sustainability.
  • Awareness Rallies:
    Students and teachers will participate in rallies, chanting slogans like Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata to spread awareness.
  • Cultural Events:
    Schools will organize cultural activities to highlight the sanitation journey of India.
  • Swachhata Classes and Workshops:
    Educational sessions on cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation practices will be held for students and teachers.
  • Health Camps for Sanitation Workers:
    Health check-up camps will be organized for SafaiMitra and their families at block or district levels to recognize their tireless efforts.
